Andddd... a little bragging...

Look what I got! Options Interchangeable Nickel Plated Circs!

They were a belated birthday gift from my aunt and uncle. We just never seemed to be in town at the same time.

I'm so excited to try these babies out. These have much nicer tips than the ones I'm used to using, and I suspect this will be the key to making the swallowtail shawl happen. I've had to restart that thing at least six times now, and it's currently totally frogged. The sharper tips should make going a lot smoother.

I'm so excited!

Haha, I'm such a nerd. But I love it.

Mini Matryoshki

It's been switching between slamming, crashing thunderstorms and beautiful, unimpeded sunshine about every two hours since I last wrote. As a result, I've been caught in between moods, unable to settle into one particular one. Its either "Lets run around, play outside, toss the Frisbee!" or "Snuggle on the couch with tea and CSI reruns." While this is not so much a problem for me, as I'm currently enjoying my week vacation before the rush of the semester starts again, I'm afraid the animals are beginning to get confused and disoriented by my mood swings. One minute I'm up and getting the leash, the next it has begun to pour again and I am back in my pillow cave on the couch, Rusalka left at the door looking disoriented.

I feel so bad that I might just suck it up and take her for a walk in the rain. Well, so long as the lightning stops.

The one bright side of the schizoid weather has been that I got my paintings finished! As soon as I made the first paint stroke, it became pretty clear that my acrylics need replacing. All sorts of nastiness going on in those little tubes. But I kept plugging away anyway, and ended up with a result that I'm pretty happy with considering everything.

I do need to invest in a teeny tiny detail brush though. The toothpicks simply didn't do it.

Oh, and the sassy one is still my favorite. =D

Takin' up the paints...

So, on a total whim last night (well, less like a whim and more like, "I don't want to unpack my crap so I'm going to distract myself some other way,") I decided to use the cute little 4'x5' canvas boards I picked up a few months ago to show a little ethnic pride.

What resulted was these cute little sketches of Matryoshka (Russian Nesting Dolls), which I plan to paint using acrylics in the next few days.

The first one is by far my favorite. She's so sassy.

And We're Back! (Again...)

Well, I have returned from my summer camp job. The counselor staff this year was super freaking amazing, and our goodbyes last night were emotionally harrowing to the max. My eyes are still puffy and red from all the crying all over each other. While I admit that it is nice to be sitting here with Rusalka at my feet and looking out onto my deck, I can honestly say that I don't think any group of people will ever be able to match the group of us. Hopefully, as I go through my pictures from the last six or so weeks, I'll be able to find some that I can post here so that I can share my weeks full of music and fun with you guys.

In the meantime, I've spent the day trying to catch up on my Internet dealings. I'm about halfway through my blog catch ups, after taking shifts due to my still irritated eyes. But I thought I might pop by for the first Musical Monday (aka Music to Knit By) in a while.

So, for our selections this week, I chose two soprano arias that I recently sang as part of this whole camp experience: Ach, ich fühl's from Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) and Quando m'en vo' from Puccini's La Bohème.

Both are sung by two of my favorite sopranos of all time. The Mozart is performed by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and the Puccini by the legend, Maria Callas.

Enjoy, and Happy Musical Monday!
